BREAKING: James Gunn Returns to Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3 as Director
As no doubt everyone reading knows, James Gunn was abruptly fired from his role as director for the third of Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy films back in July of last year amidst the resurfacing of his tweets by alt-right media personalities. The news, and problematic nature of why Disney chose to make their call, led to months of arguing and GOTG Vol 3 to be very much up in the air.
Gunn’s script was reportedly still planned to be used, however the majority of the cast was highly against Disney and Marvel’s decision. The last several months have seen Gunn be rumored and finally confirmed to be directing the upcoming The Suicide Squad film for DC; slated for an August 6th 2021 release date.
To the surprise of many on March 15th 2019, Deadline released an exclusive confirming that Gunn was set to return to Marvel for Guardians Vol 3, thus finishing his trilogy. The plan being to let him finish work on The Suicide Squad, before heading up GOTG Vol 3. James Gunn confirmed corroborated this news on twitter shortly thereafter.
