BREAKING: DC Movie News: Affleck Hangs Up The Cowl, Gunn Heads Suicide Squad Relaunch Film, and DC Super Pets Release Dates.
This week has been big in terms of very quickly confirmed rumors associated with DC WB films. Matt Reeves’ “The Batman”, which it was announced he would be directing all the way back in February 2017 , finally has a release date of June 25th 2021, Along with this is the long suspected confirmation that Ben Affleck will be stepping down from the role of the caped crusader. Reeves’ has long said this film will be a very detective focused adaptation of the character. This is all thanks to The Hollywood Reporter as with the rest of these confirmations.
This news is accompanied by further rumors that James Gunn will be directing the upcoming Suicide Squad film that he was confirmed to be writing back in October. On top of this, the film has a release date of August 6th 2021, and is said to be a relaunch rather than a flat out sequel. It is possible this decision is rooted in both the mixed reactions to the first film, and the fact that Harley and her plot are being continued in “Birds of Prey” which just got a teaser itself this past week.
To cap off all of this is the release date for the previously announced “DC Super Pets” film directed by Jared Stern and Sam Levine. Levine worked on Wreck-It Ralph along with Stern who also wrote the screenplay for The Lego Batman Movie. The film will be released on May 21st 2021. This film was rumored to be in production with this same talent behind it, but this is the first we have heard of it since. I for one forgot all about it, and am now incredibly hyped to see Ace the Bat-Hound and Beppo the super-monkey team up.
